Book Five

Ch. 13.                  253

The second Mode, or process, of subdivision takes place wen a single letter is chosen and used by arbitrary multiplication, one or two letters being interspersed to mark the divisions.  For example, if the letter C is employed, we use along with it, arbitrarily, to mark the divisions, the letters A and B.  The praxis is made plain by the alphabet which is here presented, arranged in accordance with this principle, and by the subjoined example.
